It's time for the Great Northern Open Rodeo

Two weeks ago, it was the Bear Paw Roundup in Chinook. Last night, it was the Hi-Line Junior Rodeo. Now, it's time for the cowboys and cowgirls to take center stage inside the arena at the Great Northern Fairgrounds.

Tonight, the 2019 Great Northern Open Rodeo will take place, with plenty of excitement - and prize money on the line.

The Great Northern Rodeo will feature traditional events, such as bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, team roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and tie-down roping. But, there's plenty more going on.

The rodeo also features its own Great Northern Breakaway Roping event, 3D barrel racing Friday, as well as junior barrel racing and the Wicked Spur Mini Buckers Mini Bull Riding event. A Miss Great Northern Rodeo Queen will also be crowned.

Of course, the rodeo will also feature a ton of local cowboys and cowgirls. The Great Northern Rodeo has always been a big draw for cowboys and cowgirls from across Montana, but being an open rodeo, it's also become much more accessible for local athletes looking to compete.

Over 100 contestants are expected in the arena tonight, in a wide-range of events, while slack was also held this morning inside the arena.

Of course, the Great Northern Rodeo is also sandwiched in the middle of three straight nights of exciting action in the arena, with the junior rodeo on Wednesday, and the widely-popular Cody FourColors Memorial Bull Riding set for Friday night.

The Great Northern Open Rodeo is set to get underway inside the arena at the Great Northern Fairgrounds tonight at 7 p.m.
