Friday Night Lights: I'll see you all, under the lights

Introducing new HDN high school sports writer Aarron Thompson

Hello, Hi-Line high school football fans!

My name is Aarron Thompson and I'm the new sports reporter for the Havre Daily News. I'm very excited to be writing for our sports section.

I'm writing this today to let you all know a little bit about myself, my love for sports, and that I'll be responsible for our Friday Night Lights high school football feature page each week

To start, I was born and raised on the Hi-Line and have always loved the area and the communities that are a part of it. Not only that, but I've also been passionate about sports ever since I was little, and that passion will never leave me.

Growing up, my family managed to get me hooked on sports. I'd always have my eyes glued to the television. My grandpa and my two uncles were the ones who really got me to enjoy it. It was never a dull moment watching a game, going outside and playing catch, or listening to at least one of the three of them yelling at the referees (which ended up passing onto me, of course).

Whether it was baseball, basketball, Nascar, or even sometimes the Olympics, the world of sports amazed me. I still watch these sports today, but one sport ended up sticking to me the most - football.

Oh, the joys of watching teams win, lose, fail, make crazy catches, run over defenders, all of it. I remember the New York Giants winning the Super Bowl against the undefeated New England Patriots, when the Indianapolis Colts lost in a Super Bowl (my uncle says I cried afterwards), when Marshawn Lynch went Beast Mode, when Marc Mariani made his NFL debut, and so many other events.

Thanks to the NFL, I ended up getting hooked on local sports, too. I remember going to MSU-Northern and Havre football games at first, but I would eventually get to where I would keep track of all the Hi-Line teams. I would make two friends who played Chinook football later in high school, always asking them how the games went. I would learn about 6 and 8-man football, looking at scores and keeping up with news about them. I recall seeing sports displays at North Star whenever I went there for day camps when I was younger.

Today, I follow Hi-Line sports and love every moment of it. Win or lose, it's always a pleasure to watch a good local football game.

In the end, I'm very happy to be able to cover Hi-Line high school football. It'll be such an amazing experience and I am forever grateful for the opportunity I've been given. It'll be a blast every time I go to a game or sit down and listen to a broadcast. I hope every Hi-Line football fan will get to immerse themselves in the games I cover and the stories to be told.

That's all, folks! I'm looking forward to the upcoming season across the Hi-Line and wish every team the best of luck out there.

Here's to another action-packed year of high school football, and I look forward to seeing all of you on the sidelines, and in the stands all fall.
