Commemoration: Bear Paw Battlefield

CHINOOK — Saturday, nimí·pu — Nez Perce — will hold a commemoration at Bear Paw Battlefield.

Every year nimí·pu gather to recognize and honor the sacrifices of those who fought at the battlefield 142 years ago. It is a solemn event usually accompanied by a drum circle, pipe circle and personal testimony.

For people who would like to witness or attend, this event it starts promptly at 10 a.m. with food provided later by the Fox family. Organizations recommend bringing a folding chair and layers for changing weather conditions.
