Woman killed in hit-and-run crash

Victim’s name being withheld pending notification of relatives

Montana Highway Patrol reported a woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash Thursday night on Buttercup and Laredo roads on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.

Hill County Sheriff and Coroner Jamie Ross said the name of the victim is being withheld until the family is notified.

A press release from Montana Highway Patrol says a vehicle was southbound on Laredo Road when a pedestrian was running out in the road. The vehicle impacted her directly, throwing her off the right side of the road. The vehicle continued on and has yet to be located, it added.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Cade Hill said the victim was a 16-year-old girl.

Highway Patrol’s crash report website says the patrol was called to respond to the crash at 11:27 p.m.

The Hill County Sheriff’s Office dispatch log reports the office received an assist-another-agency call reporting a hit-and-run in Hill County at 11:20 p.m., and a report of a sudden death at 12:31 this morning from Buttercup and Laredo roads.

Hill said the vehicle is suspected to be either a 2015 or 2016 dark colored Dodge Journey. He added that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Rocky Boy criminal investigators and the Hill County Sheriff's Office are also involved in the investigation of the crash.

"If anybody has any information regarding or sees a vehicle matching that description with damage to the front-passenger side please notify law enforcement," Hill said.

He added that the suspected vehicle should have damage on the front-passenger side of the vehicle, specifically the fog light area of the vehicle.
