Memorial Day flag-placing, ceremony scheduled

Havre’s American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 497 and other groups are hosting their annual Memorial Day events this weekend and Monday in honoring the memory of U.S. veterans.

VFW Post 497 Quartermaster Scott Prindeville said the public is welcome to join himself and others Sunday, at 9 a.m. at the Hill County Cemetery to put American flags on each veteran headstone.

He said someone at the cemetery will be giving out the flags, along with the tool to be able to poke a hole in the ground and further instructions.

“I think it’s great”, he said. “We want to honor our veterans who have passed over Memorial Day and thank them for the sacrifices they have done. It’s just a way to honor our veterans.”

Monday, he said, at 11 a.m. a ceremony will take place at the Hill County Courthouse.

The ceremony is a time to read each veteran’s name who has died, he added.

“It’s just a Memorial Day ceremony for our veterans who have passed and we want to remember,” Prindeville said.

The public is welcome.
