Havre's Helping Haven to re-open on First Street West

Havre's Helping Haven is relocating and is set for a tentative soft re-opening next week.

"We're hoping to service a lot more different kinds of people," Manager Jill Miller said. "Just being where people will see us from the main road, we just feel like we are going to reach a lot more people than where we were located at before."

It is being relocated to where fivehead's used to be located at 615 First Street West #B.

The hours are set for Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Miller started as the manager over a year and a half ago, she said.

"I'm looking forward to getting back opened up," she said.

She said the Helping Haven serves many people and knows that there are so many people waiting for them to open back up.

She added that they have lots of new merchandise in stock.

"We have everything, I mean, absolutely everything - household, videos, movies, clothing, clothing that's like Northern, Blue Pony, all sorts of things like that, a lot of brand new stuff, jewelry, we have bedding, luggage, lots of books, we just have everything," Miller said. "It's going be really fun to see everybody enjoying the wide open, nice, clean area."

Havre's Helping Haven Board of Directors Vice President Carol Ortman said the old location had gotten too small.

fivehead's ended its lease with Heberly Engineering, she said, adding that the space was for rent so they rented it.

"We're solely geared to reinvest in the community to meet the needs of people with lower income specifically or other kinds of life events they're dealing with, so that they can buy used clothing, shoes and other items that have been donated by other community members, so that their needs can be met," Ortman said.

She said profits made on the sales of items at the store contribute to other social justice ministries in the community such as the Havre Ministerial Association which helps people buy gas, pay utilities, pay rent and so on.

The Haven has also donated clothing and shoes to churches going on mission trips to other countries, she said, adding that it also helps Montana Actors' Theatre when they need costumes for plays.

"We're a 501 (C) (3) organization which exists to help meet the needs of our community," Ortman said.
