West Hill County gravel- crushing project goes out to bid

The Hill County Commission is putting a project out for bid to crush and stockpile approximately 21,000 tons of gravel to be used for maintaining western Hill County Roads.

Hill County Commissioner Diane McLean said the project comes at the request of the Hill County Road Department and will be paid for with a $152,000 Bridge and Road Safety Accountability Act grant, which requires a 5 percent match.

Hill County Commissioner Jake Strissel said this is an important project for a lot of people in the area and he’s happy it’s on its way.

“I’ve gotten a lot of calls out in western Hill County about gravel,” Strissel said. “It’s really hard to get gravel out there so I think this is a good opportunity for us to do something for the roads out there. I’m really excited for this project.”

McLean said the a bid will be rewarded in early July, with the deadline for submission being 10 a.m. July 1.

She said the project should start later that month and hopefully be completed by the end of summer, but that is, admittedly, a guess based on similar projects and their timelines.

She said bids must be sealed in envelops and clearly labeled as gravel crushing bids and the pit location will be Joe Horel Pit off West Box Elder Road.

McLean said more information can be obtained by contacting the commission at the Hill County Courthouse, 406-265-5481, or Hill County Road Supervisor Jim Bedwell at 406-265-8507.
