Obituary - G. L. Kimball

GREENVILLE, Ill. - G. L. Kimball of rural Greenville, age 87, passed away at 6:58 p.m. Thursday evening, September 9, 2021, at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville, Illinois.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment followed in Waite Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior, 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.

Memorials may be made to Waite Cemetery or Bond County Humane Society.

G. L. Kimball, the son of Guerdon Wesley and Mary Clarice (Dowthitt) Kimball, was born October 30, 1933 in Ashmore, Township in Coles County, Illinois. G. L. attended the local schools and graduated from Madison High School in Madison, Illinois. He then attended Southern Illinois University in Alton, Illinois majoring in business administration. He also went to law school at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri.

After graduation, he worked for the IRS for 1½ years and later became an insurance adjustor. He owned and operated AIT Insurance with his wife for over 15 years. G. L. worked for Local Labor Union 520 as an operating engineer in Mitchell, Illinois. G. L. taught part time in Granite City, Illinois and enjoyed helping the students.

G. L. and Joyce (Mayer) were united in marriage June 11, 1955, at her parents and grandparents home area of Havre, Montana. They have enjoyed 66 years of marriage.

G. L. served our country in the United States Air Force enlisting on May 15, 1953. He served four years, achieving the rank of staff sergeant April 1, 1956. He was honorably discharged May 14, 1957. G. L. was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Surviving is his wife, Joyce; son Lawrence Anthony Kimball and wife Bonnie of Urbana, Illinois and four grandchildren, Jason Kimball and wife Amanda of Evans, Georgia, Steven Kimball and wife Molly of Chicago, Illinois, Jared Kimball and wife Ezgi of Chicago, Illinois and Mary Pieri and husband Andrew of Nashville, Tennessee; he is a loving great-grandfather of seven.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Tyler Kimball and his three sisters, JoAnn Kimball Boston, Juanita Carol Vaughn and Charlotte Louise Feagin.
