Area gridders set to play in Class C All-Star games

High school football is back. Well, the All-Star kind anyway.

This weekend, both the 38th Annual Bob Cleverly 8-Man game, and the annual Six-Man All-Star game will be held this weekend.

The 8-Man All-Star game in Butte will feature plenty of Hi-Line talent including Oskar Pula, Drake Berreth and Toby Niederegger from Chinook, as well as Brock Hanford and Tim Lane from Fort Benton and CJI's Kyle Harmon.

A year after the annual game was called off due to the pandemic in 2020, the Red Team defeated the Blue Team, 34-28.

Coaches and rosters were announced for the 2022 game Wednesday. Head coach for the Blue Team is Mark Rathbun of Park City. The head coach for the Red Team is Brock Berryhill of Scobey. Assistants for the Blue Team are Jason Ostler of Drummond-Philipsburg, Carson Oakland of St. Ignatius, Jered Koskela of Thompson Falls, and George Warburton of Joliet. Red Team assistants are Mike Jones of Chinook, Brian Manning of Culbertson, Derek Gackle of Fairview, Eric Dirk of Cascade, and Clyde E. Ross of Fort Benton.

The Bob Cleverly 8-Man All-Star Game kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday night in Butte.

Meanwhile, the Six-Man All-Star Game will be held in Custer. The game will pit the Red teams versus the Blue team. The teams are made up of 18 players on each side. North Star's Rhett Wolery is competing in the game. The Six-Man All-State game kids off tonight at 7 p.m.
