Havre's Lizzi Haney hits the ball against Sidney at Havre High Gymnasium last fall. Both the Havre High football and volleyball schedules demonstrate the obstacles for both teams this fall. The HHS volleyball will try to repeat last season's success where they finished second at state while the HHS football team will look to improve under new head coach Jake Eldridge.

As the school year begins, so too does the high school fall sports season. As they get ready for their seasons this fall, the Havre High football and volleyball teams will be looking at their schedules to see who will be in their way this season.

The HHS volleyball team will begin the season with the tipoff tournament in Lockwood starting on Aug. 26. In last year's tipoff tournament, the Ponies played well to finish second in the tournament. The Ponies will then head on the road for their conference opener against Lewistown on Sept. 3.

The Ponies head on a road trip with matches on Sept. 9 and Sept. 10. The Ponies will first play Laurel, who the Ponies defeated, 3-0, in an early-season match last year. The next day, the Ponies will play Miles City. The Ponies split their matches against Miles City in the regular season last year.

Then on Sept. 16 and Sept. 17, the Ponies will play Sidney and then Glendive in back-to-back conference matches at home. Havre swept both teams in the regular season last fall.

On Sept. 22, the Ponies will be back on the road with a match against Browning. Havre will then return home for another match against Lewistown on Sept. 24. The Ponies will end the month on Sept. 3 on the road with another conference match against Glendive.

The Ponies will open the next month on Oct. 1 with a home match against Ronan. Then Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, the Ponies will wrap up their conference slate with matches against Miles City and Sidney. The Ponies will first play Miles City at home before heading to Sidney the next day.

Starting on Oct. 14, the Ponies will compete in the Blocktober Fest in Butte. At last year's Blocktober Fest, the Ponies earned a fourth-place finish. The Ponies will then return home on Oct. 22 to play Browning for their final home match. The Ponies will wrap up the regular season on Oct. 28 and 29 with road matches against Livingston and Hardin.

The HHS volleyball team will compete in the divisional tournament in Sidney starting on Nov. 3. Hopefully, the Ponies will be competing in the state tournament in Bozeman starting Nov. 10.

The HHS football team will kick off its season on the road on Aug. 26 against Sidney. The Ponies defeated Sidney, 12-7, in their home opener last season. Then on Sept. 2, the Ponies will host Lewistown in their home opener. Lewistown defeated Havre, 33-0, last season.

The Ponies will head back on the road to play Hardin on Sept. 9. Havre will look for another win against Hardin after winning this matchup, 25-14, last year. Havre will then return home on Sept. 16 with a game against Billings Central. The Ponies will be looking to avenge a 37-7 loss from last year.

Havre will play on Sept. 23 with a road game against Miles City. The Cowboys got the better of the Ponies last year with a 40-0 victory. The Ponies will then wrap up the month on Sept. 30 with a home game against Glendive. The Ponies lost, 49-37, in a shootout to Glendive last year.

The Ponies will play in another home game on Oct. 7 against Lockwood. Havre will then head back on the road on Oct. 14 with a game against Livingston. The Ponies will look for more success against Livingston after defeating them, 57-8, last year. The Ponies will wrap up the regular season on Oct. 20 with a home game against Laurel. Laurel defeated Havre, 42-7, in last year's season finale. If the Ponies have a strong season, they would compete in the playoffs beginning on Oct. 29.

The HHS football and HHS volleyball programs head into this season with different aspirations. The HHS volleyball will look to continue its success after finishing second at the state tournament last year. Meanwhile, the HHS football team will look to become a winning program under new head coach Jake Eldridge. Either way, both teams will need to navigate their schedules to achieve their goals.
