Pony golf plays good in Shelby

It’s playoff time at area golf courses, and the race for league championships is fully on.

Last week, in men’s league at Prairie Farms Golf Course, the first round of the playoffs started with Gallery Lounge, Master Sports, Prairie Farms, Duchscher Kapperud Insurance, Loch Electric, HUB Insurance, Hole 19 and Baltrusch Outfitting all won in the first round. Last Wednesday night saw Loch defeat HUB, Baltrusch Outfitting beat Hole 19, Master Sports take down Gallery Lounge and Prairie Farms oust DKI in the quarterfinals. This matches set up tonight’s semifinals with Loch taking on Baltrusch and Master Sports facing Prairie Farms.

Last Thursday at Prairie Farms, the ladies played their semifinal matches, with Northern Montana Hospital defeating Patrick Construction and D.A. Davidson besting Charles Heating and Air. The women’s championship will be held Thursday night at Prairie Farms.

The playoffs will also begin this week at Beaver Creek Golf Course.

The first round of thew men’s league top eight will feature Vic’s Place versus Stockman Bank, Doug playing R.J.S., Bacon against Koefod Insurance and Chvilicek Farms against Beaver Creek Golf Course.

Speaking of underway, the Havre High golf teams are already three events deep into their new season. The Blue Ponies finished last week off by playing in the Browning Invitational, which, for the first time, was held at Marias Valley in Shelby. The tournament featured host Browning and the Blue Ponies, as well as Whitefish, Polson, Columbia Falls, Libby and Ronan. The Pony boys were led by Matt Huse, who shot 90, followed by Lane Kinsella and Ethan Stortz, who each shot 91. Shane Patacsil finished with a 93, while Quinn Elliot had a 110. On the girls side, the Ponies got a 103 from Shea Reber, while Cali Pyrak shot 115 and Callie Bebee finished at 117. Mackenzie Kuhn shot 122 and Tierra Parker rounded out the scoring for the Ponies with a 125.

Havre will head west again this weekend for another tournament hosted by Browning, this time at East Glacier Lodge. The Ponies then close out August with a match play triangular against Livingston and Lewistown Aug. 30 in Harlowtown.

Last weekend at Priaire Farms also saw the Second Annual Havre Youth Baseball Curveball Golf Scramble held. The tournament was once again a unique hit, and a great time was had by all.
