Northern's Colter Szymoniak makes a tackle against Eastern Oregon University at Tilleman Field last year. Szymoniak as well as several other returning players will lead the MSU-Northern defense in their first year under new head coach Jerome Souers.
Under new head coach Jerome Souers, the Montana State University-Northern football team will look to set the foundations for what they want to be as a program. This fall, Souers hopes to see his defense develop into a strong unit that can help the Lights compete in the Frontier Conference in the future.
"I hope that our defense develops a tenacity mentality that is able to manage some of the prolific offenses in the Frontier Conference," Souers said. "We've got to be active and we've got to really be fundamentally sound. That's something that I've always believed in."
