Holiday food basket, Giving Tree signups underway

Programs to help people celebrate the holidays are underway, with Tuesday the deadline for people to sign up for the Havre Community Food Bank and The Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and the last day for in-person registrations for The Angel Tree Program.

A Salvation Army flyer said to fill out an application for the food baskets, provided for low-income and needy families in the area, people can call 406-265-6411 to set up an appointment.

Applications for The Angel Tree program will be done at that time as well.

Virtual sign-up is available at https://saangeltree.org until Wednesday, Nov. 16, saying “no” to the code and entering the zip code, 59501. After Wednesday, people need to call. People must bring required documentation to the sign-up, and applications will not be accepted without them.

The required items are:

• Photo ID for the adult completing the application;

• Birth certificates or Social Security cards, Social Security cards for the food baskets, for all household members;

• Proof of residential address such as a rent receipt or utility bill;

• Proof of income such as a wage stub, proof of Social Security income, TANF and so on.

• Size and gift ideas for children zero to 12 years of age and gift ideas for children 13-17 would be helpful.

The Salvation Army also is looking for volunteers for The Angel Tree, food drives, distribution day Nov. 21 and distribution day Dec. 21, Virtual Red Kettle Campaign and bell ringing at the Red Kettles at North 40, Door 1 at Gary & Leo’s Fresh Foods, Door 2 at Gary & Leo’s Fresh Foods, Havre Holiday Village Mall and at Walmart.

People can fill out a form and mail it to The Salvation Army, PO Box 418, Havre, MT 59501 or drop it off at the services office at 328 Third St. in Havre, or email [email protected].
