Obituary - Michael 'Mike' Mathew Carr

Michael "Mike" Mathew Carr of Havre, MT, 72 passed away December 12th, 2023.

Mike was born June 8th , 1951 to James and Ethel (Ludwig) Carr in Havre, MT. He grew up in Rudyard, MT and graduated from Rudyard High School in 1969. After high school, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1970 to 1980.

Mike, call sign SR1, helped start Hill County Search and Rescue (SAR) in 1988 and was the unit commander until 1992. He was also a member of Montana State SAR and was elected as the communications officer. Later, he was elected to be the Montana State SAR commander from 2006-2007. Mike was a member of the National SAR and started Montana Mutterings for the National SAR Newsletter. He was also awarded a lifetime membership in SAR.

Mike was a member of the Hi-Line Ham Club and his call sign was KE7TPU. Mike also devoted 25-plus years to his role as a hunter education instructor. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, creating lots of memories hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ethel; his brother James "Jim" Carr, and a brother-in-law, Greg Jensen.

He is survived by his brother Pat (Barb) Carr; sisters, Ginger (Max) Maddox, Joan Jensen, and Mary Lou (Steve) Klobofski. Mike is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

At Mike's request, no services will be held. Donations may be made to Hill County Search and Rescue, PO Box 1662, Havre, MT 59501, or to any organization of the donor's choice.
