Northern hoops swept at Carroll

A difficult week got even tougher for the Montana State University-Northern basketball teams.

After being swept at home by the Providence Argos Thursday, MSU-N lost at Carroll College Saturday.

The Skylights lost against No. 6 Carroll College by a score of 66-45 in Helena. The Skylights took the first quarter 15-12. The Fighting Saints came back in the second quarter and took the lead going into half time up by seven, 26-19. Northern came out on fire in the third quarter to take the lead by three going into the fourth quarter outscoring the Saints 21-11. Carroll held the Skylights to five points in the fourth quarter to take the game.

The Skylights were led by Ryley Kehr who had 12 points going 6-15 from the field. Savannah Toms and Shyan Krass each added eight points. Jalen Callender led the team in rebounds with seven. The Fighting Saints were led by Jamie Pickens, who had a double-double with 20 points and 18 rebounds. Willa Albrecht added 14 points going 4-9 from the field. Erica Nessan had 12 points.

The Northern women fell to 2-3 in the Frontier Conference and 8-10 overall.

Things didn't go any better for the MSU-N men at Carroll.

The Lights lost at Carroll by a score of 78-64 in. The game started off going back and forth, until Carroll college went on a 29-10 run to finish the first half. The Lights shot 30 percent from the field and 14 percent from behind the arc. The Fighting Saints shot 56 percent from the field and went 3-6 from behind the arc. The Lights cut the score to single digits right out of halftime. The Saints kept a good steady lead the rest of the game.

The Lights were led by Zackry Martinez who had 18 points going 6-19 from the field. J.J. Thomas added 15 points going 6-11 from the field. Xavier Bailey led the team in rebounds with eight. The Fighting Saints were led by Andrew Cook who had 30 points going 10-14 from the field. Kendall Moore added 13 points and seven assists.

Northern dropped to 1-4 in the Frontier and 9-9 overall.

Both Northern teams travel to Montana Tech Thursday to take on the Orediggers.
