Letter to the Editor - Dave Greenwood will be greatly missed

Editor,

On behalf of the Independence Bank staff and Board of Directors, we would like to pass on our sincerest condolences to the family of Dave “Doc” Greenwood, who passed away Sunday January 21, 2024. Dave was a Board Member of Independence Bank/MSI from 1993-2016. Dave was one of our longest serving board members, dedicating 23 years to Independence Bank. He will always be remembered for keeping the room light and full of charm.

Dave and his wife, Judy, owned and operated Havre’s Yummy Yogurt, Taco John’s, and Pro Putt Mini golf, operating in multiple communities. The Greenwoods were, and still are, fondly referred to as, “the first boss I ever had” by a large segment of the Havre community. Many Northern Montana College students knew Doc Greenwood from the classroom as he was a favorite professor and was instrumental in starting the vaunted NMC wrestling program.

Dave and Judy were tremendous supporters of all things Havre. There is not a person around that does not have a fond story of the Taco Cart and his gold El Camino. Dave was particularly supportive of Havre’s youth programs. The Taco John’s summer golf tour, Havre youth baseball and Havre youth wrestling all had his fingerprints, just to name a few. The Burrito Blast golf tournament, although no longer part of the summer golf schedule, has a cherished place in most all of Havre’s golfing communities’ memories. Everyone seemingly has a Burrito Blast story.

Not only was Dave a fantastic board member he was a fantastic man who left an indelible impression on his community and the many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.
