Havre girls basketball ready for another run

After several months of hard work, the postseason is finally here for the Havre High girls basketball team. This week at the Metra in Billings, the Blue Ponies will compete in the Eastern A Divisional in order to qualify for the Class A State Tournament.

The Ponies will begin the tournament Thursday at 6:30 p.m. when they play Hardin. The Bulldogs enter the tournament with an overall record of 10-9. They split the season series with the Ponies as Hardin won, 57-54, earlier in the year but Havre won, 70-47, later in the season. If the Bulldogs are going to go on a run, they will look to Dierra Takes Enemy and other top players to excel.

The Ponies enter the tournament after going 7-1 in the Northeast A and 15-3 overall in the regular season. The Ponies will look to go on a run in order to qualify for the Class A State Tournament and win their fourth straight state championship. As the Ponies enter divisional play this week, they will lean on top players such as Ariana Gary and Amaya Jarvis.

If the Ponies win their opening game of the tournament, they would face either Lockwood or Lewistown who play each other at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Lockwood Lions enter the week with a record of 13-5 and have been led by top players Dani Jordan and Tailey Harris. Earlier this season, Havre defeated Lockwood 59-51.

Lewistown enters the game with an overall record of 8-11 this season. The Golden Eagles have been led this season by the likes of Lexy Burnham. Havre swept the Eagles in the regular searon by scores of 63-38 and 52-44.

The tournament will start at noon Thursday when Laurel and Miles City face each other. The Laurel Locomotives enter the tournament with a record of 11-6 thanks to the play of Emma Timm and Kaity Dantic.

The Miles City Cowgirls enter the weekend with an overall record of 16-2 and have gotten excellent seasons from players such as Alli Glasscock and Jillian Kanduch. During the regular season, the Ponies and Cowgirls split the season series.

Thursday at 1:30 p.m., Billings Central and Sidney will face off.

The Rams have a 16-1 record heading into the weekend as Kam Reiker and Coral Old Bull have had excellent seasons. In their lone regular season meeting, Billings Central defeated Havre 55-38.

The Sidney Eagles had an 8-9 record during the regular season, so they will need players such as Ave' Norby and Savanna Anderson to have monster games this week. During the regular season, the Ponies swept Sidney by scores of 54-32 and 68-23.

The tournament's semifinal games will take place Friday at 6:30 and 8 p.m. The consolation game will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and the championship game will be later that day on 7 p.m. With a chance to clinch a spot in the state tournament, the Ponies just need to build off their strong regular season in order to go on a run.

The HHS girls basketball team will begin the Eastern A Divisional with a game against Hardin at the Metra in Billings Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
