  • View from the North 40: If it were a commentary on the new year …

    Updated Jan 6, 2023

I know we’re still in Week 1 of 2023, but I am not impressed — and this is from someone who doesn’t put much stock in the whole new year is a new beginning, to be a new person, to have new goals. It’s a clean slate. Goodbye old year we got a newly swaddled baby year we can raise to be anything we like. A new year is just another day, the significance of which is trying to remember a new number for any references to the date. I appreciate the day off in its honor, but I don’t throw it a party. I don’t make lists for it. I d...

Yep. 2023. Who’d a thought we’d make it! I like old-fashioned paper calendars. I like to keep mine, a...

  • Our Our Way: We fear no evil - Psalm 23:4

    Updated Jan 6, 2023

"Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou are with Me. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me." Out our way, you would seldom see any resemblance to the modern Western town and the Hollywood version of it. Our streets are paved, we park cars and trucks instead of tie up horses, and seldom, if ever, do you see a modern cowhand walking about with jingling spurs or wearing his revolver in town. But up on the Tiger Ridge you...

  • Pastor's Corner: Grace through acquaintance

    Updated Jan 6, 2023

In my morning devotion this past week, I came across a quote by A.W. Tozer, which read, "Personal experience must always be first in real life. Knowledge by acquaintance is always better than knowledge by description." Those who are blessed with vision are acquainted with the beauty of a sunset or the grandeur of a mountain landscape; however, these things can only be described to those who were born with the inability to see. The same truth applies to all things we...

  • Grief Poem - Going home!

    Updated Jan 6, 2023

Grief means sorrow, as loss of one; especially someone dear. They're flown off, left us behind, life no longer feels clear. The waves of grief do come on us like waves thrown on a beach. But we don't drown, we just feel grief; dear ones aren't in our reach. We go through shock, depression, too; but times of laughter too, Don't dwell on loss but what we're left, like stuff that's good for you. While we're suffering, glory's ahead, exceedingly with joy! We're born to die - when...

  • Lights fall in overtime to Rocky Mountain

    George Ferguson|Updated Jan 6, 2023

It was an offensive struggle from beginning to end, but in the end, the Rocky Mountain College men's basketball team left the Armory Gymnasium stunned.
