The Blue Sky Eagles moved into sole possession of first place in the Northern C Division with a win over the Chester Coyotes in a matchup of unbeaten teams in Rudyard on Saturday night.
But it wasn't an easy win. Chester grabbed the first two games by scores of 25-20 and 27-25. But the Eagles, rallied to win three consecutive games to stay undefeated and put themselves atop the Northern C halfway through the conference season.
Blue Sky got a match-high 14 kills and five aces from Kile Patrick in the win. Kaila Warren also had a solid match, notching eight kills, five aces and five blocks.
Chester was led by Keyla Wendland with seven kills, 15 assists and five aces while Mary DeVries added eight kills.
Elsewhere in District 6C, Sunburst took care of J-I, 25-13, 16-25, 25-16, 25-17, to remain in third place in the conference. The Refiners got 15 kills, two aces and five blocks from Brianna Gillund and 14 assists and two aces from Amanda Nagy in the win.
J-I was led by Hannah Pimley with nine kills while Amanda Miller added seven assists and seven digs in the losing effort.
The Rocky Boy Morning Stars also picked up a win over the Box Elder Bears, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 in Rocky Boy. The Stars served up a whopping 20 aces in the match, but no individual stats were available.
Box Elder was led Ashley Parisian with six kills and Connie Menard with eight assists in the loss.
The KG KouGars suffered a non-conference loss to the Havre High junior varsity squad, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-15.
Lena Suek and Kaci Owens combined for 13 kills and 10 digs while Justine Erhard handed out 18 assists for the Ponies. Cady Arifin had 11 kills, 10 digs and five aces for KG while Heidi Donoven and Shea Haugen combined for 29 digs.
In District 2B action, the Chinook Sugarbeeters remain unbeaten in conference play, picking up a pair of wins over Malta and Wolf Point. The Beeters outlasted the M-Ettes in a 19-25, 27-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-9 marathon in Chinook on Friday.
Chinook got a balanced effort in the win. Shaylan Haugen notched nine kills, Tiffany Cuerth dished out 17 assists and Monica Thackeray picked up 26 digs in the key win.
Saturday night, the Beeters knocked off Wolf Point, 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, in Wolf Point. Monica Thackeray paced the Beeters with nine kills and 21 digs while Andrea Eslick added 18 assists and four aces in the win.
Chinook sits alone atop the 2B just about halfway through the conference season with a 5-0 record.
