Big Sandy remains undefeated, Harlem picks up first win of season

The Big Sandy Pioneer continued their push towards a Northern C conference title and the Harlem Wildcats picked up their first win of the season in another exciting week of Hi-Line football.

Big Sandy crushed Hays-Lodge Pole to stay unbeaten on the season, while Harlem knocked off 2B-rival Poplar.

The Box Elder Bears also picked up a big win on the weekend with a convincing victory over rival Rocky Boy.

Harlem 25, Poplar 7

The Harlem Wildcats are not mathematically eliminated from playoff contention just yet. Thanks in part to a 25-7 win in Poplar, the Wildcats moved into the winners column for the first time this season in District 2B play.

The Wildcats, who have been struggling to find any offense this season, picked up the game's first two scores Friday night and also scored 12 unanswered points in the second half to route the Indians.

After a scoreless first quarter, Harlem struck twice in the second period. The first touchdown came when Beanie Fetter broke off a 40-yard TD run that gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead. Later, the Wildcats struck again when quarterback Monty Snow hit John Young on a 30-yard pass play that gave the Wildcats a slim 13-7 lead at the half.

The Wildcats put the game out of reach in the third quarter when Snow scored from 2-yards out. Fetter then put an exclamation point on the Wildcats first win with a 68-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

In all, Harlem racked up 332 total yards of offense while holding Poplar scoreless in for three quarters of the game.

Harlem (1-5, 1-4) will travel to Havre Saturday afternoon to take on the Havre High junior varsity team.

Big Sandy 66, Hays-Lodge Pole 14

The Big Sandy Pioneers kept their hopes of a perfect season alive Friday night by routing Northern C-foe Hays-Lodge Pole 66-14 in Big Sandy.

The Pioneers scored 48 of their 66 points in the first half including a 32 point outburst in the second quarter.

Seniors Gage Brumwell and Skylar Pearson led the way for the Pioneers with huge nights offensively. Pearson scored on runs of 8 and 23 yards and rushed for 159 yards on the night. Meanwhile, Brumwell added 137 yards rushing and three TD's. He also threw touchdown passes to Mason Ophus and Devin Genereux.

The T-Birds got two scores from the combination of quarterback Lance Brockie and wideout Dwight Flansburg. Brockie hit Flansburg for a 36 yard TD in the second quarter and the two hooked up for 6 yards in the third period.

The Pioneers (6-0) will now visit Centerville on Saturday afternoon. Hays-Lodge Pole (0-6) will seek its first win of the season when they host the Sunburst Refiners on Saturday afternoon.

Box Elder 72, Rocky Boy 6

The Box Elder Bears kept their Northern six-man playoff hopes alive Saturday afternoon by clobbering rival Rocky Boy, 72-6 in Box Elder.

The Bears raced out to a 30-0 lead in the first quarter and tacked on 28 more points before halftime putting the game out of reach.

Neal Rosette led the way for the Bears, throwing for four touchdowns. Rosette hooked up with Dane Healy for 29 yards and J.R. Rosette for 32 yards in the first quarter. He also hit Healy again for 30 yards in the second quarter and he found Darren Henry for his final TD in the third period. James Burns also scored three times for the Bears on runs of 1, 5 and 4 yards.

The Stars only score came in the fourth quarter when quarterback Bill Watson hit Eric Watson on a 20-yard TD pass.

Box Elder (3-3) will remain home this Saturday to host the Augusta Elks. Meanwhile, the Stars (1-5) will return home to host conference powerhouse Geraldine.
