JOSEPH GRUBER obituary

GREAT FALLS - Joseph F. Gruber, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at a Great Falls hospital of natural causes.

A funeral was held Monday morning at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Joseph was born on Feb. 20, 1917, at Gildford. He grew up and attended schools in Kremlin and Havre. He attended diesel mechanic school for General Motors in Oakland, Calif., and later in Lansing, Mich.

Joseph served in the U.S. Navy as a chief torpedo man for four years during World War II. He served in the North Pacific and later instructed new recruits at Widbey Island.

He married Marjorie Klick in 1955 in Great Falls.

Joseph worked as a mechanic in North Dakota, Havre and Great Falls, where he worked at the Cascade County Shop for 20 years. He retired as shop foreman in 1982.

Joseph was an avid bowler, belonged to ABC Bowling, and was a retired member of the International Association of Machinists. He was also a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie Gruber in 2003; two brothers; and sister.
