Ice Hawk Bantams finish third at tourney

There certainly wasn't a lack of competition for the Havre Ice Hawks Bantam squad this past weekend in Great Falls. The Ice Hawks competed in a very tough North American Bantam Challenge that featured three teams from the U.S. and five teams from Canada. Despite the tough competition, Havre came away with a third place finish in an exciting 7-6 win over the Cochrane Rockies in double overtime.

Ryan Armstrong slipped in a goal in the second overtime sudden-death shootout to grab the Ice Hawks the win. Havre got into the second overtime after Todd Roe netted Havre's only goal out of five skaters in the overtime shootout, which was good enough to tie the Rockies.

Tyler Boyce scored two goals and added an assist during regulation, while Roe, Mason Sheppard and Brad Hanson also added regulation goals.

Havre advanced to the consolation game with a 5-3 win over the St. Albert Raiders on Saturday. Roe picked up a hat trick, while Boyce and Andrew Linquist also added goals in the win.

After suffering a tough 11-0 loss to the Spring Bank Wings to open the tournament on Friday, Havre rallied for a 6-2 win over the Lethbridge Hockey Hounds on Saturday morning. Boyce had a solid game scoring a hat trick and adding an assist, while Roe had a goal and three assists. Havre also got goals from Mason Sheppard and Nick Nault in the win.

The Havre Ice Hawk High School team finished picked up a win and a tie this weekend in Butte. On Saturday, Havre's second-period rally was squelched as Butte scored a goal with 53 seconds left in the game to finish in a 4-4 tie. Andy Hanson scored a pair of goals while Michael Anderson and Chazz Hurlburt added a goal each in the tie.

The Ice Hawks wouldn't be denied on Sunday, picking up a dominant 7-2 win. Hanson, Josh Morse and Ben Erickson scored two goals each while Michael Anderson added Havre's other score. Tyson Anderson added three assists in the win and goalie Mark Larson had a solid game in the net for Havre.

The high school squad will be at home this weekend hosting rival Great Falls in a pair of games. The first game will be held Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Ice Hawk squirts dropped a pair of games and tied another against Great Falls on Nov. 29 and 30. The Squirts opened action with a 6-2 loss on Nov. 29. Brandt Miller and Danny Roe scored Havre's two goals with Joey DeVries tending the net for Havre. In the second game of the day, Havre scored a 2-2 tie with DeVries and Miller scoring goals. Blaine Grisak assisted on both, while Roe had a solid game in goal.

On Nov. 30, Great Falls roughed up Havre 9-4 as Roe and Miller each scored a goal and added two assists. Havre also got goals from Crysta Robinson and Chase Rolf in the loss.
