Pony girls finish fourth at tough Bohn-Moerer Invitational

There was no shortage of competition for the Havre High swim team at this past weekend's Bohn-Moerer Invitational swim meet in Helena. The meet featured some of the top teams in Class AA and Class A as the 2004 high school swim team nears its end.

Despite the tough competition, the Havre High girls teams had a solid showing, finish fourth out of 11 teams with 105 team points. Class AA power Kalispell won the team title with 342 points.

The Havre girls were paced by Danielle Barton's fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.69.

The Ponies also got points from Rachel Hansen, Kasie Teske and Gwen Porter, who placed sixth, seventh and ninth in the 50 freestyle. Hansen added another seventh in the 100 freestyle.

Also scoring points for Havre individually were: Brittne Zimmer in the 200 IM, Katie Hartman and Teske in the 100 butterfly, Emily Kostelecky in the 500 freestyle, Millie Hall and Rienke in the 100 backstroke and Porter in the 100 breastroke.

In the relays, Barton, Hansen, Porter and Teske finished a solid third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:53.40. The same foursome added a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

The Pony boys finished with 52 points good enough for eighth place overall. Class AA Bozeman dominated the boys side with 391.5 teams points.

Havre was paced by Scott Robinson with a third in the 50 freestyle and a sixth in the 100 freestyle. Also scoring points for Havre was Jordan Croft in the 200 IM, Matt Hartman in the 100 butterfly, Ryan Kinholt in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and Scott Vigliotti in the 500 freestyle.

The relay team of Croft, Kevin Friede, Sam Simpson and Robinson picked up a sixth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Havre will be off this weekend to prepare for the Class AA-A state swim meet in Great Falls on Feb. 6-7.
