EMMA BARTLETT obituary

PENDLETON, Ore. - Elma Kiemele Bartlett, 89, died Monday, March 1, 2004, in Pendleton, Ore.

A funeral service will be held in Pendleton on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. Services will be held in Havre at 10 a.m. Monday at

the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church with the Rev. VaunDalee DeLong officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service at the graveside.

Elma was born on March 10, 1914, in Box Elder to Fred and Margaret Kiemele. She attended schools in the Havre area.

She married to Howard A. Bartlett on Dec. 31, 1934. They moved to Fairfield in 1941 and operated an irrigated farm there until their retirement in 1973. After leaving the farm to reside in Fairfield for several years, they returned to the Havre area for their retirement and lived in Havre until Howard's death in 1990. After Howard died, Elma moved to Pendleton, Ore., in 1996.

Elma enjoyed her life working side by side with her husband on the Montana farm and raising their daughter, Alice. She often said there was no better life than working and living on a Montana farm. She enjoyed her garden and cooking for visitors. She was an active member of her church community and found great satisfaction in socializing with family, neighbors and friends. She loved a spirited game of cribbage.

Elma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard in 1990; and brother, William Kiemele.

Survivors include her daughter, Alice (David) Nelson of Pendleton, Ore.; brother, Alfred Kiemele of Havre; sister, Bertha Bitz of Great Falls; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church, 410 Fifth Ave., Havre, MT 59501.

Services and arrangements in Havre are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
