Schermele says farewell to Great Falls

If it seems like Montana State University-Northern guard Samm Schermele has been playing basketball on the Hi-Line forever, it just seems that way. Schermele was playing in Havre by her sophomore year of high school as a star guard/forward for the Great Falls High Bison, and is now in her fourth year as a starter for the Skylights.

And tonight's game at UGF will certainly be an emotional one for the two-time Class AA All-State standout, who is now sixth on MSU-N's all-time scoring list. When the Skylights open league play at UGF tonight, it will likely mark the final time Schermele will play basketball in her home town, and no doubt a large crowd will be on hand to watch her say fair well to the Electric City.

But the good news for Northern fans is, Schermele still has almost three months left in her MSU-N career, and that means she'll continue to move up the Northern scoring list. This past week in Las Vegas, Schermele averaged nearly 25 points per game and she moved into sixth on the all-time list with 1,268 points, passing Northern Hall of Famer Stacey Barnes in the process. Entering tonight's game at UGF, which tips off at 6 in Great Falls, Schermele is less than 100 points behind Northern great Kristin Lawrence, who scored 1,343 career points.
