Havre shows tremendeous compassion

Editor:

A friend of ours, Angela Morris, has been suffering from severe multiple sclerosis for two-plus years. A benefit dinner will be held, Oct. 29, to raise funds to help with all the financial costs of travel, treatment, etc.

As I think about Angela and her upcoming benefit, I'm reminded of our own benefit dinner, held in February 2007, to cover the expenses of our daughter, Tirzah Kaylynn Bergren, who was born four months early, weighing 1 pound, 3 ounces.

Our daughter was still in the NICU in Great Falls at the time of the benefit, but I returned home to be present with my husband and son.

To this day I am still overwhelmed by the love and generosity of the community of Havre. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined 600-plus people in attendance and a financial gift we will never forget.

My family was deeply blessed and encouraged by the community support and left that evening in tears humbled that one community could affect us so deeply.

Being a Havre native, Havre will always hold a special place within my heart, and the saying "Havre Has It" holds more truth than anyone realizes. For when a community can come together to support one of its own in such a selfless way, people truly do "have it."

They have the ability to show compassion and care in way that will never be forgotten. I can only hope and pray that Angela Morris and her family will feel the same depth of love that we felt that February evening.

Thank you Havre for making a difference in the lives of your own.

Jacqueline Bergren
