Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

The high school volleyball season is heading towards an important point in the season. It's the time when teams are jockeying to get the best seed possible at their respective postseason tournaments, some of which are just two weeks away.

And this weekend saw plenty of heated action on the Hi-Line.

The Chester/J-I hawks opened the weekend with a three-game sweep of rival Sunburst on the road Thursday night. The hawks, who are in first place in the new District 6C East, beat the Refiners by scores of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-22.

Jenni Ghekiere, Megan Han and Kate Graff recorded five kills each for the Hawks, while Nikole Wolfe had 11 assists and seven aces.

Things didn't go as well for the Hawks on Friday night however. Against another rival on the road, the Hawks fell to the Simms Tigers in five sets by scores of 18-25, 25-17, 17-25, 27-25 and 15-10. C/J-I had chances to put the Tigers away in the fourth game but it was not to be.

Ghekiere racked up 11 kills and five blocks in the loss. Sadie Brown had 16 assists and a team-high 10 digs, while Wolfe also had 16 assists.

Meanwhile, in a huge 6C East showdown Friday night, the Big Sandy Pioneers upset the Chinook Sugarbeeters in a five-set thriller in Big Sandy. The Sugarbeeters rallied from begin down 1-0 and 2-1, but the Pioneers were up to the task in the fifth set. Big Sandy won by scores of 25-19, 33-35, 25-17, 18-25 and 15-5.

Brooke Leader had nine kills and Molly Herron had six blocks for the Pioneers. Shaylee Cook added 16 digs and four service aces. Chinook was led by Kayla Hanson's 14 kills, while Makhayla Farmer had four blocks. Taryn Norby added 16 digs.

Friday night also saw Rocky Boy lose to Fairfield in a three-game sweep by scores of 25-11, 25-8 and 25-13. Leigha Onco had 19 digs in the District 1B loss for the Morning Stars.

Friday night was also tough on the North Stars Knights. North Star lost a nonconference title to Power by scores of 18-25, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-14.

Shelby Lipp totaled 10 kills and a remarkable nine blocks for the Knights. Whitney Wendland had a pair of digs as well.

But the Knights managed to bounce back on Saturday.

North Star took care of Dutton-Brady by scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-12 on the road.

Lipp was again a catalyst, totaling 12 kills, three digs and one block. Bettie Carlon had 12 assists and Lisa Carlon had six aces.

Meanwhile, Harlem dropped a District 2B match to Wolf Point at home on Saturday. The Wildcats lost to the Wolves by scores of 25-8, 25-17 and 25-8.

Laci Snider led Harlem with two kills and two blocks and Sevrie Green had nine digs and two aces.
