While Montana's U. S. Sen. Jon Tester is out of the country this week, visiting U. S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, he has extended an invitation to business owners and entrepreneurs to attend his next Small Business Opportunities Workshop, in Missoula next month.
This week marks Tester's second visit to Iraq — his first was in 2007 — and his first to Afghanistan.
"The best way to get a picture of what's happening in Iraq and Afghanistan is to go there myself and talk with the folks making decisions and the folks with boots on the ground, " Tester said in a release. "Our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are the smartest, toughest and strongest in the world, and I look forward to hearing directly from them in order to make the best decisions I can back in the Senate. "
The senator is meeting with military and political leaders in the countries as well as visiting Montana troops while on his tour.
Tester met Tuesday with Montanans serving in Operation New Dawn in Iraq, as well as military commanders and Iraqi government leaders. He is expected to arrive in Afghanistan later this week.
While headed out of the country, the senator extended his invitation to the jobs workshop, set at the University of Montana University Center Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 8 a. m to 1 p. m.
"I'm bullish when it comes to Montana's potential, because we're home to some of America's hardest working, most innovative self-starters in business, " Tester said in a release announcing the workshop. "We're seeing incredible success with these workshops in making sure business owners have the tools they need to help grow their companies and boost jobs in Montana.
"I encourage folks across the state to attend our event next month to learn how we can keep that momentum going, " he added.
Tester has held small business and jobs workshops in Great Falls, Bozeman and Kalispell over the past two years. The event focuses on young entrepreneurship in Montana and how to expand small businesses to create more jobs.
Tester's Missoula jobs workshop is free and open to the public. Montanans interested in attending can RSVP at tester.senate.gov/workshop.
