MSU-N's Schwenke honored by Frontier

The Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team is coming off an impressive sweep at its own Duck Inn Classic this past weekend. And Northern guard Laramie Schwenke was honored for her play in helping the Skylights improve to 12-1.

Schwenke a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Malta was named Frontier Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for a second time this season. The Skylights won both of their games at the Duck Inn Classic. Northern beat Hope International University 62-57 and NCAA, Division II Minot State 69-61

Schwenke averaged 16 points and seven rebounds. She was 9-of-18 from the field (50 percent), 7-of-11 3-point field goals (64 percent) and 7-of-10 (70 percent) from the free-throw-line, and was named MVP of the tournament.

Schwenke had to leave Saturday's game against Minot after injuring her ankle with just over five minutes left. Early reports say the injury is a sprain and Schwenke will recover.

Also nominated: Alli Blake of Rocky Mountain College, Kezia Ford of the University of Great Falls, Jeni Guertin of Carroll College, Jenteal Jackson of Westminster College and Jasmine Stohr of Lewis-Clark State.

Rocky Mountain College's Joel Barndt was named Men's Player of the Week.

The Skylights are off until Dec. 31 when they host Mount Royal University.
