Hi-Line Football Roundup: Hawks keep rolling

Another Hi-Line football weekend in is in the books, and a lot of local teams earned big wins.

On Friday night in Harlem, unfortunately the Class B Wildcats weren't one of those teams. Dropping to 1-5 on the season, Wolf Point defeated the Wildcats 46-18 in Harlem.

Harlem got a score in each of the first three quarters, but couldn't stop the Wolf Point offense. Seth Adams scored all three times for the Wildcats. Adams returned a kick 85-yards to pay dirt, while also scoring on a 42-yard rush and on a 10-yard rush. Harlem will try to get back into the win column when they travel to Plentywood on Friday.

On Saturday afternoon, the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds also came out on the losing end, as they were defeated 64-0 by Scobey in Scobey. The Thunderbirds are still winless on the season, dropping to 0-7 on the season. They will return to action on Saturday, when they host Wibaux in Hays.

Chester/J-I 74, Sunburst 0

Also playing on Saturday, the Northern C, 8-Man Chester/J-I Hawks dominated Sunburst, defeating the Refiners 74-0. The No. 2 Hawks remain at the top of the Northern C standings, and improved to 7-0 doing so.

This contest was over by half time. The Hawks led 20-0 after the first quarter, but up 34 more points in the second quarter to lead 54-0. C/J-I also posted six in the third and 14 in the fourth, as they cruised over Sunburst.

And the Hawks looked particularly impressive, as they earned scoring from all over. Jordan Oraw scored three rushing TD's, his longest being 32-yards, while Erik Kelly also two rushing touchdowns, his longest from 24-yards out. Dustin Romain added two TD passes, while Mike Henke scored on a fumble return and Justin May scored on a 28-yard carry. Dell Harmon also had a rushing TD, as well as a TD pass to Brandon Theel.

Next up, C/J-I will host Great Falls Central (6-1) on Friday in Chester, as the Hawks attempts to keep the No. 1 seed in the Northern C.

Big Sandy 54, North Star 8

In Class C 6-Man action, the No. 5 Big Sandy Pioneers and North Star Knights met in Rudyard on Saturday. And bouncing back from an upset loss last weekend, it was the Pioneers defeating the Knights 54-8.

The Pioneers improved to 6-1, while the Knights dropped to 3-3, dropping two consecutive games.

Big Sandy jumped out to an early lead and the Knights never recovered. The Pioneers led 16-0, then 32-0 at the half, while the Knights scored just one touchdown in the first half. The Pioneers also added one score in the second half, while the Knights scored two second half points.

Trevor Lackner had a huge game for the Pioneers, tossing four TD passes, as well as rushing for a score, and returning a punt 62-yards for a score. Zac Leader brought in three of Lackner's TD passes, while Lane Martin also had a TD catch. Jessey Bailey also returned a punt for a score. Cooper Spicher had the only North Star touchdown, on a 50-yard run, while Christian Pena helped the Knights score on a safety.

The Knights will take on Stanford/Geyser on the road on Saturday, and the Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, when they host Heart Butte in Big Sandy.

Chinook 51, Simms 6

The Class C 8-Man Chinook Sugarbeeters also earned a huge win on Saturday, as they defeated Simms 51-6, and maintained the No. 2 spot in the Northern C. The Beeters trail Chester/J-I, who is still undefeated on the season, while the Beeters improved to 6-1 on the season.

The Beeters passed for a solid 140 yards, but ran away with the game again, racking up 293 yards on the ground. Zach Molyneaux had over 200 of those rushing yards, and punched his way into the end zone two times. Molyneaux also had one TD pass, while Scott Schmitt had a rushing TD, and Dyan Surber and Gavin Gunderson each had two rushing TD's each.

Chinook will host Fort Benton on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Hoon Field in Chinook.
