Havre's Major League All-Stars head to state

After all the city tournaments finished up several weeks ago, little league baseball may not be in Havre anymore, but post season tournaments are still taking place all over the state.

The 12-year old all star team wrapped up a visit to the district tournament last weekend and finished in fourth place. Havre played in a field with five other teams, but played top notch teams all the way through, ending the weekend with a loss in the consolation game.

On the road to the consolation game, Havre lost to Belgrade 10-0, lost to Livingston 5-3, and lost to Gallatin Valley 7-1. Havre also defeated Bozeman 6-5, but fell to Belgrade 13-4 in the consolation game, finishing as the No. 4 team. The Havre squad showed signs of greatness, especially in the two run loss to Livingston. Livingston went on to win the district tournament.

Pitching was a major factor in the weekend, with the competition having a little more experience in that area than the Havre all-stars. Havre also hurt themselves with a handful of errors at times, and really never got the bats hot like they would have liked.

Havre comes out of a tough district, and will be tested again this weekend at the Cal Ripken State Tournament in Belgrade.

Joining Havre will be Glendive, Livingston, Mission, Belgrade, Kalispell, Bitterroot Valley, Glasgow, Gallatin Valley and Whitefish. Pool play began on Thursday, where Havre opened up with Glendive in the morning, and then took on Mission in the afternoon. Today Havre took on Livingston at 1:30 p.m. and will then face Belgrade at 6:30 p.m. It is a tough pool for Havre, and they will have to play extremely well if they hope to draw a top seed in tournament play.

Only the top eight teams will advance to the single elimination tournament that will begin Saturday.
