It's the smallest senior class I can ever remember playing football for the Havre Blue Ponies, in numbers that is. But make no mistake, the three Blue Ponies who were honored in what could be their final home of their careers have been gin this fall.
Havre High's Thurman Holdsclaw, Zach Plum and Chet Shrauger have a lot of talent underneath them, but the trio of HHS seniors have had a huge impact on the Ponies' season — a season in which HHS is in playoff contention yet again, has won three straight games and still has a mathematical chance at repeating as Central A champions.
And that's why it was so special to see all of them do so well during Friday night's 40-8 trampling of the Browning Indians at Blue Pony Stadium.
Plum's night was one he'll never forget, with four touchdowns, two interceptions and nearly 300 yards receiving. Holdclaw was rested much of the second half due to a minor injury, but he came up with a big fumble early and was able to have several big catches and runs. And perhaps no one carries a big heart that Shrauger, who's been through some scary injuries the last two seasons, yet consistently leads the Ponies in tackles and hardest hits of the night. And he was at it again on senior night.
"It was special to end it at home this way," Plum said. "It's awesome for us seniors to go out like this under the lights."
Special indeed.
All three HHS seniors got to experience the thrill of being honored with their parents before the game, and then the traditional "senior walk" after their final victory under the Blue Pony Stadium lights. Those are moments no Blue Pony senior will ever forget.
And in major part, because of this talented trio, HHS isn't done just yet. The Ponies and their tiny bad of three seniors have a chance to make some more noise, first this Friday night in Livingston and then, hopefully in the Class A playoffs.
It's a small group, but all season, and again on Friday night, these HHS seniors have done big things.
