Hi-Liners shine at Northern C track

The best of the best from the Northern C track and field teams went head to head at the divisional meet, and a lot of local talent stood out.

Thursday in Great Falls, Hi-Line teams competed at the Ralph Halverson Northern C Divisional track meet at Memorial Stadium. It was expected to be a tight race for the No. 1 boys and girls side, but a couple of teams stood out with dominating performances.

In girls action, grabbing 116 pints, it was the North Star Knights defending their supremacy with their third-straight Northern C title. The Chinook Sugarbeeters finished second with 66. The Chester/J-I Hawks finished with 15 points, while Big Sandy finished with two and Turner with one.

On the boys side of things, the Sugarbeeters finished in second place with 50 points, behind Power High School, which took first with 85. The Pioneers finished ninth with 30, the Hawks grabbed 14, while the Knights grabbed nine and the Box Elder Bears grabbed six.

The North Star girls were led by a standout group of competitors.

Haylee Anderson finished first in the 100-meter (13.36) and first in the 200-meter (27.49). Lisa Carlon took first in the long jump (16-8) and Bettie Carlon took first in the triple jump (35-11). Tylynn Rettig took first in the pole vault (8-6), while both relay teams also finished first for the Knights. The short relay finished in 51.28 and the long relay finished in 4:23.84. Rettig also placed in the 100 and the 200, while Bettie Carlon placed in the 400 and in the long jump. Lisa Carlon also placed in the 200 and in the triple jump, Delainey Spicher placed in the 100 hurdles and Shelby Lipp placed in the shot put and in the discus, as the Knights rolled through the competition.

Chinook was paced by Kayla Hanson, the only Beeter to grab a No. 1 spot. Hanson finished first in the 100 hurdles (16.35) and first in the 300 hurdles (47.96). But Hannah Weber also pitched in, finishing second in the 800 (2:31) and third in the 3200 (12:20.15). Hanson also placed in the triple jump, while Britney Nelson placed third in the shot put and second in the discus and fifth in the javelin, Makhayla Farmer placed in the discus.

C/J-I got points from Brittnee Theel in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, while Katelyn Graff placed in the pole vault.

In the boys field, the Beeters got solid production from their normal top athletes.

Dylan Surber earned a first place finish in the 800 (2:02.43) and Zach Molyneaux finished first in the discus (139-9). The Chinook 400 relay team also finished first (45.93), while Barry Murnion placed in the high jump, Molyneaux placed in the javelin and Kaylan Johnson placed in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Geoff Qualls placed in the 300 hurdles.

Big Sandy was led by its long relay team, finishing first with a time of 3:42.15, while the short relay team finished second. Justin Stevens placed in the 100, while Kaden Beck finished second in the shot put.

The Knights got points from Cooper Spicher in the 110 hurdles and triple jump and Quinn Spinler in the 300 hurdles and pole vault. Will Ketchum led Box Elder with top finishes in the 1600 and 3200, while C/J-I got top finishes by Erik Kelly in the 110 hurdles and Cody Ramberg in the triple jump and high jump.

The top five finishes in each event earned a trip to the Class C state track and field meet in Butte this upcoming weekend.
