Blue Pony golf teams thrive at East Glacier

Despite some early fall weather, the Havre High boys and girls golf teams turned in some solid scores at the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course over the weekend.

The Blue Ponies were at the Browning Invitational on Friday, playing 18 holes at East Glacier against tough teams from Lewistown, Polson and Libby. The Havre girls won the tournament with a score of 414, while the HHS boys finished second with a 375. Lewistown won the boys meet with a 370.

On the girls side, Katie Beck fired a 100 to finish fourth overall, while Boston Swensen finished sixth with a 101. Randi Gabrielsen took eighth overall with a 105 and junior Dani Murphy was ninth with a 108. Rounding out the varsity scores for the Blue Pony girls was freshman Payton Howard with a 120.

In the boys meet, senior David Denny shot a season-low 89, good enough for an outstanding fourth-place finish. Freshman Jerod Boles shot 92 to finish fifth, while senior Ramsey Drew turned in a sixth-place finish with an 18-hole score of 94.

The Havre varsity also got a 100 from freshman Jeff Miller and a 101 from senior Spencer Ross.

"I am very excited how well the season is going this far," HHS head coach McKinsey Rodriguez said. "Many JV players where able to attend the tournament for both boys and girls. I am excited to see the scores from Brad Bender, Austin Christiansen, Megan Cline, Julie Kadrmas, and Kelly Reynolds."

On the junior varsity side, Megan Cline shot a 105, Julie Kadrmas shot a 109 and Kelly Reynolds fired a 113 for the Havre girls. Brad Bender shot an outstanding 83 to lead the HHS JV boys, while Austin Christiansen shot 96, Michael Bakke 104, Garret Hentchel 117 and Aaron Erickson 125.

The Havre High boys and girls golf teams will be back at East Glacier for another tournament this Saturday. The Ponies host the Havre Invitational Sept. 8 at Beaver Creek Golf Course.
