The schedule has been jam packed full of great competition for the Havre high wrestling team as of late, and while the Blue Ponies are just coming out of a dual with Great Falls High on Tuesday, they gear up for another great team tonight.
Tonight at the Havre High gymnasium in Havre, the Central A Ponies will host to--rankled Class B-C power Forsyth in a dual. Havre was also set to dual Conrad in a triangular but the Cowboys opted not to make the trip to Havre.
"Forsyth is far and away the best B-C team in the state," Havre High head coach Scott Filius said. "There are going to be some great matches, especially with Forsyth's kids and our kids.
"This will be just be fun," FIlius added. "You are wrestling kids in a different class, so you aren't worried about seeing them in two weeks. You are just worried about the match and how you can get better."
Tonight's action is similar to what the Ponies went through on Tuesday, as they took on the Class AA Great Falls Bison in a dual. Facing top talent only makes a team better. And the Bison definitely showed the Ponies where they could improve, beating the Ponies 51-24.
And while the Ponies don't know a whole lot of specifics about Forsyth they are going to have their work cut out for them. This is yet another opportunity to get better, and after facing GFH, coach Filius would really like to see some of his grapplers win the really close matches they lost on Tuesday.
"I just want to do what we do," Filius said. "And do it better every time we take the mat."
Forsyth will bring in talented wrestlers like Colt McDaniel, Matt Weber, Gabe Nelson, Logan Harms, Nick Pulver, Taylor French, Chris Nile, Brandon Weber, Dallan Brauer, Frank Marcy, Daryl Fulton, KC French and Cody Lawson.
It won't matter who takes the mat across from the Ponies, they are expecting a battle. And while the Ponies' lineup has seen some shuffling over the last week or so, they too plan on filling this weekends lineup with wrestlers ready to battle.
Dillon Seely (140) was reinjured in the dual with Great Falls and is questionable. But with young talent like sophomore Jayson Kohler stepping up, the Ponies will fill the gaps. Other HHS wrestlers who should take the mat will be Grayson Brenna, Dylan Stewart, Nate Kennelly, Gilbert Bara, Dustin Seely, Thomas Gruber, Matte Emge, Jordan Schroeder, Eli Hinebauch, Kameron Pribyl, Casey Schaub, Tyler Adams and Kolton Lodge.
Tonight is also senior night for HHS. Hinebauch, Schaub, Pribyly, Lodge and Dustin and Dillon Seely will be honored before the dual begins.
Friday's action will get started at 5 p.m. at the Havre High gymnasium. The Ponies close out the regular season Saturday at the Malta Invite.
Havre High's Casey Schaub (right) and the rest of the Blue Pony seniors will close out their home careers tonight when HHS hosts Class B-C power Forsyth at 5 at the HHS gymnasium. Conrad was also set to attend but opted not to make the trip.
