Hi-Line Darts and Laurels

Laurel — Our Savior American Lutheran Church in Billings donated some of the money they collected in their recent fund drives to parishes that needed some extra funds. Rocky Boy's Our Savior Lutheran Church received enough to purchase a 15-passenger van the church needs to transport church members and others to and from church and the various points in the reservation and the community. The Billings church is living its beliefs. Their donation is appreciated at Rocky Boy.

Laurel — Elsewhere on this page, there is a letter to the editor form Bonnie Bennett, who is raising money for Relay for Life. Bonnie walks in thLaurel —e Relay event every year in honor of her parents who had cancer. That's not all she does. There is hardly a charity or nonprofit in this community that has not benefitted from her help. If you see Bonnie — and it's hard to miss her because she's always out doing good work somewhere — give her a little money to help her raise funds for Relay for Life.

Laurel — Forty high school juniors from four schools that serve the Hi-Line's Native American population received $1,500 scholarships from the GEAR UP program. This opens the door to winning larger scholarships next year. Hopefully it might start some juniors thinking for the first time about going to college. Congratulations to the winners

Laurel — Federal Judge Richard Cebull will retire from the bench on May 3. It was the right decision to make. It is important that there be public support for the judiciary since so much of the work depends on trust for the judges by both parties and the public at large. Cebull lost a lot of public support after he emailed out a racist story involving beastiality and President Barack Obama's mother.

Dart — The 9th Circuit of the federal judiciary has taken a painfully long time to investigate the Cebull case. It doesn't seem like such a complex matter to investigate. A special committee filed its report to the 9th Circuit Judicial Council in December. On March 15, the council issued an order and memorandum. But wait, it remains confidential during the appeal process. And there will be no comment until Cebull retires.
