Robert J. 'Bob' Connor
Robert J. "Bob" Connor, 84, died Friday, Feb. 8, at Northern Montana Center in Havre.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the United Methodist Church in Chester. Burial in Chester Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the church. Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester. Memorials may be given to the Rudyard Museum or donor's choice.
Bob was born Sept. 13, 1928, at Goldstone, Mont. He was educated at a country school, then began farming. As a young man he worked for Runkle Brothers in Havre.
He married Betty Lou Shaffer on Sept. 29, 1949. Bob worked for the G.N.R.R. and Montana Dakota Utilities before taking over the family ranch in 1954. He also worked part time for area farmers, the ASCS, and government agencies, keeping weather data and measuring Milk River levels. In 1971 he took a full-time job for the Hill County Highway Dept. and worked as a maintainer operator for 21 years. After retiring, he moved to Evanston, Wyo. in 1992 to help his son. When his health failed in 2007, he moved back to Havre.
Bob enjoyed woodworking, square and round dancing, and visiting with friends.
Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Betty Connor of Havre; daughter, Linda Cady of Havre; two sons, Butch (Linda) Connor of Evanston, Wyo., and Russ (Karen) Connor of Pocatello, Idaho; his sister, Frances Minnick of Havre; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
