The first truly bad stretch of weather this spring is causing the Havre High softball team to fall behind in games. Already having last Monday's game at Conrad postponed, the Blue Ponies missed another opportunity to hit the diamond on Saturday.
Havre was set to open Central A play Saturday at Browning, but that game was called off due to the first strong snowstorm to hit in more than two months. More than six inches of snow fell on Browning Thursday night and into Friday, and even more snow hit the ground throughout the weekend. Wind speeds also topped out at 60 MPH in the Browning area Saturday, making conditions impossible for athletic events to unfold.
The postponed game between the Blue Ponies and Indians means Havre has lost its last two games due to weather. Havre's lost game with Browning is scheduled to be made up when the Indians visit Havre on April 26.
The Blue Ponies are also slated to play their makeup games in Conrad today, but with snow and cold sticking to the area through Tuesday, those varsity and junior varsity games are in jeopardy for a second straight week.
The weekend forecast does look better for Havre High. The Ponies are set to visit conference rival Lewistown on Friday, then return home to host the Belgrade Panthers on Saturday at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field.
