HHS swimmers complete a grueling weekend

The Havre High swim teams are closing in on the state meet, which is just a few weeks away. And every race the Blue Ponies swim in helps them get ready for those two big days in Hardin.

And the Ponies got plenty of time in the pool this weekend as they traveled to Great Falls for a double-dual with Great Falls High and CMR, then competed in the Missoula Invitational Saturday at the Grizzly Pool.

The Ponies swam well against both the Bison and Rustlers Friday at the Bison Pool in Great Falls.

Rhines

On the boys side, Havre's Nick Rhines, Desmond Fialkosky, Taylor Riphenburg and Paul Jeffery all placed. Rhines won the 50-yard freestyle in a blazing 24.60, and came back to finish third in the grueling 500 free with a time of 6:27.15. Fialkosky finished second in the 500 free with a time of 6:17.57, and that came after winning the 100 free in 56.56.

Riphenburg placed fourth for the Ponies in the 200 free in 2:25.02, while Jeffery was fifth at 2:25.37. Riphenburg also finished third in the 100 butterfly, while Jeffery was fifth in the 100 backstroke. The HHS 400 free relay team placed second, while the 200 free relay team was victorious Friday afternoon.

The Pony girls also swam well in Great Falls. Havre took third and fifth, respectively in the 200 free relay, while the Ponies swam to a fifth-place finish in the 400 free relay. Individually, Lexi Olson placed fourth in the 50 freeand sixth in the 100 free. Lieza Reighard placed fifth in the 500 free with a time of 6:52.21 and she took seventh in the 100 fly. Hannah Pepprock placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.48 and Jackie Martin placed seventh for the Ponies in the 50 freeand sixth in 500.

HHS turned its attention to the Missoula Invite Saturday morning, and while the Ponies didn't post many top-six finishes against tough Class AA competition, they certainly raced fast.

Rhines led the Pony boys with sixth-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 55.08, while Fialkosky placed sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:16.54. The Havre 400 free relay team also placed fourth.

The Pony boys finished seventh overall with 83 points, while the Hellgate boys won the meet with 441 points. GFH was second and CMR was third. The HHS girls finished ninth overall with 83 points. Hellgate was first with 455, while Bozeman was second and CMR third.

The Blue Ponies will wrap up the regular season this Saturday at the prestigious Helena Invitational.
