News you can use
On Monday night while the wind was howling and a cold front moving in the lanes were warming up. Shawn Mariani recorded his sixth 300-game of his career and the third this season at Hi Line Lanes, with the other two belonging to Ryan Mapes. It was Shawn's final game in a four-game set as he recorded a 200, 229, 230, and 300 for a 959.
Holden's Hot Wheels Scotch Tournament was held over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday. There was a good turnout. Thanks to Shawn and Christie Holden for their hard work. The results will be in next week's article.
TOURNEY TRAIL: Jayce and Jason McDonald traveled to Billings over the weekend and bowled in the Family Tournament. In talking to them the lanes were very tough and oily. They won't know until this weekend if they advance to Lewistown. The 24th Annual Budweiser Tournament continues in Lewistown; call 1-877-538-3473 for your spots.
P.B.A.: They now have a team concept bowling baker style stepladder format. Each team has a celebriety owner; on Sunday a team from New York won the maiden event and garnished 18 points in the standings. More information in two weeks as this Sunday is the Chris Paul Charity Tournament.
TIP OF THE WEEK:"Don't drop your shoulders!" Actually, Do! In the days of the old rubber balls and early coaching it was a sin to drop your shoulder. It was taught to keep your shoulders level which causes you to jerk your ball left, but with the old rubber balls it didn't matter much anyway because they didn't hook too much. Also, it forces your hand and wrist into a weak position. Dropping your shoulder is a good thing (because it helps get the ball under your head during the release, which is the last key measuring spot in the swing path.)
