Our View: Foundation provides great services to students

The Havre Public Schools Education Foundation elected new officers this week and seated several board members.

The foundation's goal is to provide a "margin of excellence" to the Havre schools, and the foundation is building a reputation for doing just that.

Raising funds is one of the more difficult tasks any organization can do, but we hope that the foundation officers and directors find it a little bit easier to get contributions because of the valuable services the foundation offers.

Thirteen scholarships are now funded with foundation money, and the foundation has been able to fund meaningful projects in the school district's classrooms and libraries that the cash-strapped school districts could not quite afford.

In recent years, more people have become aware of the foundation and what it does. We hope that opens the door to more contributions from area residents.

The foundation already provides valuable services to the students of Havre. with more community support, it could make even more offerings.

Tight budgets for school districts are likely to continue and become worse. But community support, such as that offered by the foundation, can help ease the school district's problems.

The people who volunteered to serve on the foundation board deserve praise for their willingness to out in some work to help Havre's students.
