HYBA city tournaments begin this weekend

It’s baseball season in Havre. The sun is out, the heat is on, and for many local youths, the next week will be one of the biggest in their young lives.

The Havre Youth Baseball Association will conduct three city tournaments over the next week and more, starting this weekend with the HYBA Minor League Tournament. Formerly known as B-League, the Minors will play tonight through Sunday at Elks Park.

The tournament is comprised of six teams with Sears taking on Pacific and Subway facing Chinook tonight at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively. Tillemans and Havre Tire have byes in the first round of the tournament. The Minor tourney will continue Friday and Saturday, with the championship game slated for Sunday at 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, Legion Field will be the site of the annual HYBA Babe Ruth championship, starting Sunday afternoon. The tournament will begin with Northern Montana Hospital taking on Wells Fargo at 11 a.m., with Dominos taking on Optimist to follow. The tournament will run through Monday night’s championship game. If a second championship game is needed, it will be played Wednesday night.

Finally, the HYBA Majors Tournament is set for June 20-23 at Lions Park. The tournament will feature five teams, with Master Sports, Galipso Lemonade, Lions, Bing ‘N’ Bobs and Sears battling it out for the Majors title.

The Majors tourney begins next Thursday at 5 p.m. and will run through the championship game, which is slated for 10 a.m. next Sunday. A second championship game will be played at 12 p.m. next Sunday if needed.

Havre will also host Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Star State Tournament July 11-14 at Legion Field.
