Montana State University-Northern’s new provost has been chosen out of the final five candidates that visited the university in December.

William Rugg, Ph.D., accepted the position of provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at MSU-Northern and will begin working Feb. 17, according to a letter Chancellor James Limbaugh sent to the faculty and staff of MSU-Northern Tuesday.

In his letter, Limbaugh said a “full and formal announcement detailing Dr. Rugg’s background and experience will be circulated Monday.”

In his letter, Limbaugh writes, “Thanks to all of you who participated in the interviews of the five candidates. A special thanks goes to Dean Greg Kegel, search committee chair, and the members of the search committee for their stellar work in reviewing applications and in bringing five highly-qualifies individuals to campus.”

Rugg’s last position, which he vacated in August, was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla.

He has a doctorate in higher education administration and broadcasting for Utah State University and a bachelor’s degree in English and theater from Barrington College.

Too bad they did not hire Larry Strizich, he would have been excellent. I know first hand how he goes out of his way to help students. Maybe the problem with the university system is people from out of state coming in and continuing to hire people from out of state when qualified people are already in house. Disappointing as a tax payer and a alumni donor to Northern.

Hire former Stone Child College president Melody Henry. She turned the misfortunes of SCC without help from anyone. She made SCC the Harvard of the Indian college system. MSU-N you are missing a great opportunity to be led by the savior of SCC. Not since Abe Lincoln has there been a greater leader than Melody Henry.
