Man arrested after telling agents he had 2 pounds of pot

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a 23-year-old U.S. citizen April 17 for possession of marijuana.

Ryan Smart, a Kalispell man, is currently in the Hill County Detention Center awaiting charges.

According to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol agents boarded the train and immediately recognized the smell of marijuana. As agents spoke with the passengers on the train, one man “freely admitted that he had been smoking marijuana on the train and that he had more marijuana in his possession.

“He then showed the agents his backpack, which contained about 1.85 pounds of marijuana. The man was then arrested and turned over to the Tri Agency Task Force,” the release said.

According to the Hill County Detention Center inmate list, Smart was arrested on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession with intent to sell, drugs on a train and possession of drug paraphernalia.
