Fire claims two dogs, kitchen

Firefighters were called to Ike Avenue Monday afternoon to put out a fire that took the lives of two dogs.

The call about a fire in a kitchen came to the Havre Fire Department at 12:15 p.m. Monday. Eight firefighters in two engines, along with emergency medical personnel and Havre police, raced to the 1300 Block of Ike Avenue to put out the fire that was contained in the kitchen.

The family’s two dogs died from smoke inhalation, and no people were injured. The house experienced smoke and fire damages of an estimated $60,000-worth.

Firefighters, after some investigation, found that the fire was likely caused by an appliance plugged into the wall on a counter of the kitchen. The fire is still under investigation.
