Letter to the Editor: Volunteers worked hard for 9C tourney

Editor:

Communities that do things together are stronger.

This past weekend was a true testament to this thought, as many worked together to make the 9C tournament a huge success.

The Athletic Committee of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Havre High School and District 9C, would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the 60-plus volunteers who worked the recent Boys and Girls District Basketball Tournament at Havre High School, Feb. 18-21.

The Chamber’s Athletic Committee and Chamber staff secured volunteers to work the tournament. The new format this year, Thursday and Friday made for long days of basketball, with games starting at 8 a.m. and going into the evening until 10:30.

Couple the willingness of the many volunteers, as a door monitor and ticket taker, along with the 30 sponsors that help host the hospitality room for tournament officials, school administration and coaches to enjoy, Havre truly showcased a commitment to work together to host this great event for 9C and for Havre.

Thank you Northern Montana Hospital, Clausen & Sons, Credit Bureau of Havre, Independence Bank, Koefod Agency, Triangle Communications, Hill County Electric, Triangle Mobile Store, Tilleman Motors, NorthWestern Energy, Western Drug, Havre Holiday Village Mall, Tilleman Hi-Line Dodge, Tire Rama, Ezzie’s Wholesale, Gary & Leo’s Fresh Foods, Havre Daily News, MSU-N Alumni Foundation, 5th Ave Grind, D.A. Davidson, Baldwin Insurance, Eagle Home Mortgages, McDonald’s, Havre Hi-Line Realty, Bear Paw Credit Union, Coke, Culligan, E-Z Mart and Valley Furniture for your supporting sponsorship.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to all the volunteers who helped to make the District 9C Basketball Tournament a huge success.

A big thank-you to the committee for their help and huge thank you to Shari Robinson for securing the volunteers and being at the tournament trouble-shooting where needed. The committee greatly appreciates the time you shared and your commitment to help. Also, a thank-you needs to go to Havre High School for hosting and to Dennis Murphy, HHS athletic director, for the many hours he and his crew put in to make the 9C a community success.

The goal of the Athletic Committee is to promote and support athletic events that in turn help to stimulate the local economy. Without the community coming together events such as the 9C basketball and the hockey tournaments this past weekend would not happen.
