News you can use
Editor,
The Hill County commissioners have put a 10 mill levy on the ballot. This levy is to be used on infrastructure and technology updates in the county.
The county foresees many upgrade needs to the courthouse, detention center and the annex in the near future. This is the first levy request since 1986 when I-105 was voted in. The commission felt that the need and the timing is right for this request.
The jail bond levy will make its final payment on June 2017. That levy is also 10 mills. That jail bond will be paid off and the levy will no longer be on the tax rolls. Currently the jail bond tax impact is $13.50 on a 100,000 home and $27 on a 200,000 home.
If the voters approve the new 10 mill request it would just replace the jail bond levy. While this is a new tax it will not increase the taxes that you have been paying in the past. The impact on a $100,000 home will still be $13.50 and $27 on a $200,000 home.
