High speed chase suspect on the loose

Havre and Rocky Boy police are looking for a 17-year-old boy who is suspected of leading police on a high-speed chase that began in Havre and ended with a crash on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.

Havre City Police Lt. Aaron Wittmer said the GMC pickup truck driven by the suspect reached speeds of 100 miles per hour on State Secondary Highway 234 — Beaver Creek Highway— as the driver sped toward Rocky Boy. Wittmer said they know the suspect’s identity and are working to locate him.

The chase began at 12:14 a.m. today after a Havre Police officer noticed the pickup speeding down Ninth Street. The pickup then turned into an alley, probably to evade the officer, Wittmer said. The patrolman pulled beside the vehicle and that was when the chase began.

Rocky Boy police lost the pickup for a few minutes but found it in a field with a 14-year-old girl inside it, Wittmer said. The Havre Police dispatch log says she was issued a summons on charges of juvenile curfew violations and probation violations.

The 17-year-old is wanted on charges of felony criminal endangerment and reckless driving by eluding.

No one was hurt during the pursuit, Wittmer said, adding that he did not know if drugs or firearms were found in the vehicle as Rocky Boy police took over pursuit once the suspect crossed onto the reservation.

No one from Rocky Boy police was available for comment by printing deadline this morning.
