One lane of First Street closed due to service line leak

Havre Public Works said this morning that one lane of First Street between Fifth to Sixth ave. has been closed off today while repairs are made on a leaking water line.

Lakeside Excavation Inc. is repairing the line, Deputy Public Works Director Jeff Jensen said, and should be finished sometime today.

They are repairing the leaking 1-inch water service line that goes to Domino's Pizza, he said. He added it is hard to tell how much water has leaked out with all of the ice and snow.

Jensen said public works was notified of the leak Sunday, although Lakeside was working on frozen and leaking water line at Fort Assiniboine at the time and was not able to immediately assist Public Works with repairing the water line.

The leak on First Street was not a major one, he said.

Public Works shut off the service line at 5 this morning because ice was making First Street more treacherous, Jensen said.

He added that while the state closed off one lane between Fifth and Sixth avenues on First Street, people can still drive on the road.

"Hopefully that's the only leak we have for awhile," he said.
