Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Kasee Henderson, Havre High Football

Big Kasee Henderson is becoming a wanted man on the gridiron

If it seems like Kasee Henderson, Havre High's All-State left tackle, is bigger, faster and stronger than he was a season ago, that's because he is.

However, as much as Henderson's body has grown, it's the growth he has shown as a player that has so many college football teams interested in where he will play when his Blue Pony career comes to a close.

"I didn't really think I would play college football when I was younger," Henderson said at this week's Blue Pony Football Camp. "But as soon as I got All-State honors last season, my coaches started telling me I had a chance."

The fact that Henderson is now 6-foot-6 and weighs 280 pounds certainly gives credence to the idea that he will be able to play at the next level. The athletic offensive lineman, who also is a rotational player on the defensive line, has picked up the game quickly after starting in seventh grade and since then, he has just steadily improved.

"I never wanted to play football," Henderson said. "But then my friend, Reese Bulkley talked me into it, and it has worked out pretty well."

When it comes to playing left tackle, a key position at every level of football, being big, tall, long and athletic are desired traits and Henderson has them all. His quick feet and long arms will endear him to college coaches and with multiple offers already heading into his senior season, his skill set is already garnering attention.

While Henderson didn't mention every school that had expressed interest in him, he did say that Montana State University-Northern, Montana-Western and Dickinson State have offered him scholarships already. But for Henderson, that's not a concern right now as he and his teammates hit the field this week at Blue Pony football camp.

Head coach Ryan Gatch said he had 35 players out for the camp, which began Monday night and will run through Wednesday, as HHS fine tunes some things for the 2019 season which opens Aug. 31 at Sidney.

While the first practices are still a few weeks away for the Ponies and the rest of the high school football teams in Montana, the regular season is right around the corner and with that in mind, the Havre Daily News caught up with Henderson for five questions.

HDN: How does it feel to get the pads back on this week at football camp?

Henderson: "It feels great. You get the pads back on, we are with our teammates, playing football. It's exciting."

HDN: What have you been doing since last football season?

Henderson: "I have been doing workouts every day. I knew I had to get better. I wanted to improve my strength. Last year, I got pushed around a few times, and I am hoping that doesn't happen anymore. I want to go out there and be a bully on the field."

HDN: Colleges have obviously shown a lot of interest, what has the recruiting process been like?

Henderson: "It's been pretty cool actually. It's cool that they want you to come and play for their team. They want you to help them win, and I like that."

HDN: What do you like most about football?

Henderson: "I like winning. I hate to lose but any competitor is going to say that. But the best part is just being out on the field and having fun with my guys, with my teammates."

HDN: What is your goal for this season?

Henderson: "I just want to have fun my senior season of football. We want to win and make the playoffs. That's what I want to do. That has been our goal and it would be great to have all that hard work we have put in pay off."
